Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Fine/Very Fine (CGC 7.0)
Condition Details
Moderate spine stress and small ticks visible along the left edge. Minor corner blunting on the top right. Some surface wear/scuffing on the dark black ink areas. Minor color breaking creases near the bottom right edge. Overall presents well with good color vibrancy.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $25–$45; Graded (CGC 7.0): $60–$80; Graded (CGC 9.8): $400+
Recent Sales
Raw mid-grade copies consistently sell for $20-$40 on eBay. CGC 9.6 copies have recently sold in the $150-$200 range.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading unless it is exceptionally clean upon physical inspection. The current visible wear suggests a grade in the 7.0–8.0 range, where the cost of grading and shipping may exceed the value added. Only worth grading if it appears to be a 9.6 or higher after a professional press.
Notable Features
First appearance of several Empire Strikes Back characters in the main Star Wars series. Notable for the 'THIS MARVEL COMIC COULD BE WORTH $2500 TO YOU!' promotional banner across the top, which was a sweepstakes event.
Authentication Notes
Appears to be an authentic 1980 original. UPC is present in the bottom left corner, consistent with direct market distribution of that era. Paper stock shows age-appropriate off-white to cream coloring visible on the edges.
