Visible spine stress marks and slight color breaks along the left edge. Minor corner blunting on the top and bottom right. Slight surface wear/scuffing on the dark areas of the cover art. The cover appears to have good gloss and no major staining or tears.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $30 - $60; Graded (CGC 7.0): $100 - $130
Recent Sales
Recent Whitman #39 sales in mid-to-high grade have fluctuated between $25 and $85 depending on local demand and corner sharpess. A CGC 9.4 Whitman copy recently sold for over $250.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading unless a press/clean can guarantee an 8.5 or higher. The current value increase likely wouldn't cover the grading and shipping costs for a mid-grade raw copy.
Notable Features
Whitman logo appearing in the top left corner (W with a smiley face). Unlike standard Gold Key issues, Whitman variants were often sold in pre-packed bags at grocery stores and department stores. Features a painted cover by George Wilson.
Authentication Notes
The Whitman logo and 25-cent diamond price tag are consistent with late Gold Key era distribution. The aged paper tone and specific staple alignment appear authentic to 1970s Western Publishing production.
