Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Fine/Very Fine (CGC 7.0)
Condition Details
Visible color-breaking spine stress/ticks along the left edge. Significant edge wear/chipping on the right side. Corner blunting on the top and bottom right. Minor surface scuffing visible on the blue background areas and potential light foxing/soiling on the white title letters.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $30 - $45; Graded (9.8): $400 - $600; Graded (7.0): $60 - $80
Recent Sales
Recent raw mid-grade copies sell between $25 and $50. High-grade CGC 9.8 copies have seen a price increase due to MCU interest and licensing changes with Hasbro.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading in this condition unless intended for sentimental preservation. The flaws (spine ticks and edge wear) likely cap the grade at 7.0-7.5, where the cost of grading may exceed the value added.
Notable Features
First appearance of ROM, Dire Wraiths, and Prime Director. Key bronze age #1. Features the trademark Direct Edition barcode (a 'slashtrough' variant was also common for this era, but this is a standard bar). Based on the Parker Brothers toy line.
Authentication Notes
The comic appears authentic based on the 40-cent price point consistent with December 1979 Marvel issues, period-accurate paper oxidation (slight yellowing visible through the bag), and standard 'Marvel Comics Group' header and UPC placement.
