Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Fine (CGC 6.0)
Condition Details
Notable blunting and rounding at the top right corner. Spine displays several color-breaking stress ticks. General surface scuffing and minor soiling visible on the white backgrounds. Edgewear along the right side of the cover. Bag/board reflects light, but underlying paper shows moderate shelf wear.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $15 - $25; Graded 6.0: $40 - $50; Graded 9.8: $300 - $400
Recent Sales
Raw copies in similar Mid-Grade (6.0-7.0) condition consistently sell for $18 to $22 on eBay. 9.8 graded copies have seen a price increase following Magneto's prominence in X-Men '97.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for grading in current condition. The cost of shipping and grading fees would likely exceed the market value of a 6.0 grade. Only copies estimated at 9.6 or higher are generally worth the investment for this specific issue.
Notable Features
Anniversary issue. Significant rank shift with Magneto becoming headmaster of the Xavier School. First appearance of the Fenris twins (as adults/villains). Iconic trial cover. Direct edition with Spider-Man UPC head.
Authentication Notes
Authentic copper age Marvel production. Appropriate ink saturation for the 1980s newsprint stock. The Spider-Man face in the corner box is the correct Direct Market graphic for that era.
