Condition & Value

Condition Grade

Very Good (CGC 4.0)

Condition Details

Moderate shelf wear with significant spine stress and color-breaking ticks. Top left corner shows a small tear/chip. Bottom right corner is blunted. Noticeable surface soiling/dirt transfer on the bottom white border. Minor color rub and edge wear along the top.

Estimated Market Value

Raw: $30 - $45; Graded (4.0): $60 - $75; High grade potential (9.8): $1,000+

Recent Sales

Low-to-mid grade copies (4.0-6.0) have recently sold for $35-$65. High grade 9.6 copies regularly fetch $350+.

Grading Recommendation

In its current 4.0 condition, it is not worth professional grading as fees would exceed the value increase. However, this is a highly desirable Bronze Age key; if cleaned and pressed, it might hit a 5.0, but still largely a 'reader' or mid-grade raw collectible.

Notable Features

Significant Bronze Age key issue. First appearance of the modern Hugo Strange. Iconic cover art by Marshall Rogers. Features the UPC barcode identifying it as a newsstand distribution copy.

Authentication Notes

Genuine 1977 newsstand copy. Proper 35-cent price point and DC 'Bullet' logo for the era. No signs of reproduction; paper stock shows age-appropriate off-white tanning.
