Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine- (CGC 7.5)
Condition Details
Moderate spine stress with some white color-breaking ticks visible along the spine edge; slight corner blunting on the top right; some minor surface scuffing/shelf wear visible on the black 'Watchmen' title bar; appears slightly wavy likely due to polybag storage.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $15 - $25; Graded (CGC 9.8): $150 - $200; Graded (CGC 7.5): $40 - $55
Recent Sales
Recent raw copies in similar mid-to-high grade condition have sold between $18 and $28 on eBay. CGC 9.8 copies remain the primary driver for high-value sales.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading unless for personal preservation. The visible spine ticks and surface wear on the black ink will likely keep it out of the '9' range. A press and clean might improve the appearance but won't fix the color breaks.
Notable Features
Origin of Dr. Manhattan; Iconic Dave Gibbons cover featuring a photograph on the surface of Mars; First printing identified by the $1.50 cover price and 'No. 4 of 12' numbering.
Authentication Notes
Authentic first printing. Correct paper stock for the Baxter paper era; color registration on the pink Mars surface is consistent with DC's 1986 production; includes the standard DC 'bullet' logo of the era.
