Comic Description

Titled 'Fearful Symmetry,' this issue is famous for its symmetrical layouts (the 'mirror' effect where the first page mirrors the last, etc.). It explores Rorschach's investigation and the subplot of the Black Freighter comic within a comic.

Condition & Value

Condition Grade

Very Fine+ (CGC 8.5)

Condition Details

Light spine stress marks visible, minor corner blunting on top right, and slight surface wear on the dark purple border. Overall excellent color saturation and structural integrity.

Estimated Market Value

Raw: $20 - $35; Graded (9.8): $150 - $200; Graded (8.5): $50 - $65

Recent Sales

Raw mid-to-high grade copies typically sell for $25 on eBay. Graded 9.8 copies have recently sold in the $175 range.

Grading Recommendation

Unless the comic is likely to grade at 9.6 or higher after a professional press, it is generally not cost-effective to grade compared to its market value. While a key series, #5 is not a major key issue.

Notable Features

Features a unique symmetrical narrative structure by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Includes the DC logo and 75 cent price point. This is the Direct Edition (standard for this series).

Authentication Notes

Authentic 1987 publication with standard DC glossy cover stock of the era and correct color registration. Staple placement is correct for late 80s DC manufacturing.
