Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Fine/Very Fine (CGC 7.0)
Condition Details
Moderate spine stress and minor color-breaking ticks along the left edge. Minor corner blunting on the bottom right. Slight surface wear/scuffing visible in the blue field. Overall clean cover gloss with no visible staining.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $15 - $30; Graded (9.0+): $80 - $120
Recent Sales
Recent raw copies in similar mid-to-high grade condition have sold between $20 and $35. High-grade slabbed copies (9.6+) can exceed $200.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for grading unless it is a sentimental keeper. The cost of grading (shipping, fees, tax) would likely equal or exceed the market value of a 7.0 copy. A 'Press and Clean' might improve it to a 7.5/8.0, but still low ROI.
Notable Features
First appearance of Redcoat and Kebec. Features a coupon for an 'Ink & Colour Art' poster and a 35-cent cover price. Captain Canuck is widely considered Canada's first true national superhero.
Authentication Notes
The paper stock is consistent with 1970s independent Canadian publishing (newsprint interior, slightly heavier cover). Hand-drawn aesthetic and logo are consistent with original Comely Comix printings.
