Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine- (CGC 7.5)
Condition Details
Moderate spine stress with color-breaking ticks visible along the left edge. Minor blunting on the top-left and bottom-left corners. Slight surface wear/scuffing visible through the poly-bag. Overall good color retention and gloss, but edge wear prevents a high-grade NM status.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $5 - $10; Graded (9.8): $90 - $120
Recent Sales
Recent raw copies in similar condition have sold for $6-$12. CGC 9.8 copies have recently sold in the $100 range.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading. The fair market value for a mid-to-high grade raw copy does not justify the grading fees ($25-$40+). Grading would only be profitable if the book were a guaranteed 9.8, which the visible spine ticks preclude.
Notable Features
Alan Moore era; 'For Mature Readers' label; Direct Market edition (indicated by the DC logo in the UPC box area/graphic box); Part of the 'History of the DC Universe' cross-promotion.
Authentication Notes
Authentic first printing. Correct paper stock for 1987 DC Baxter/Mando paper transition era; aligns with known ink density and trade dress for Swamp Thing Vol 2 #57.
