Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Near Mint (CGC 9.4)
Condition Details
The book appears very flat with sharp corners. There is minor light horizontal waving/rippling evident on the front cover (characteristic of the cardstock used). One or two very minor spine stress marks visible upon close inspection through the polybag.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $5 - $15. Graded (9.8): $60 - $80. Graded (9.4/9.6): $25 - $40.
Recent Sales
Raw copies frequently sell for under $10 on eBay. High-grade CGC 9.8 copies have recently sold in the $75 range depending on the slab type.
Grading Recommendation
Generally not recommended for grading unless the submitter is certain it will achieve a 9.8. Because this was a mass-produced 90s book, the cost of grading often exceeds the market value of the book in grades below 9.8.
Notable Features
First appearance of The Maxx. First appearance of Deathblow (Michael Cray). First appearance of Bloodwulf. Iconic Sam Kieth cover art. This issue was originally intended to be the start of an ongoing series that never materialized.
Authentication Notes
The cardstock cover is consistent with early 1990s Image production. The logo uses the standard red-to-black gradient. No signs of reproduction or counterfeiting; this book was overprinted, making originals common and easy to find.
