Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine/Near Mint (CGC 9.0)
Condition Details
Minor spine stress visible along the left edge. The bottom right corner shows slight blunting. There appears to be a minor subscription-like vertical wave/crease on the right side of the cover. Surface gloss looks well-maintained with white background still bright.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $5 - $15 | Graded (9.8): $60 - $90
Recent Sales
Raw copies typically sell for $5-10 in average condition. High-grade CGC 9.8 copies have recently sold in the $75 range.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading unless a 9.8 is guaranteed. The submission costs will likely exceed the increase in value for a 9.0-9.2 grade. A 'press and clean' might improve the shelf-wear, but it is not a high-value key issue.
Notable Features
Final issue of the landmark mini-series. Modern origin story for the post-Crisis Superman. Direct Market edition (indicated by the 'Matt Wagner's Demon' ad in the UPC box).
Authentication Notes
The comic displays authentic 1980s semi-gloss paper stock and correct color saturation. The 'DC' logo and price box (75c) are consistent with first printing standards for 1986.
