Comic Description
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) faces the X-Men (Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Sprite/Kitty Pryde) who have been brainwashed or manipulated by Siryn and Black Tom Cassidy. Notable for featuring early appearances of Siryn and continuing development of Rogue in the wider Marvel universe context.
Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Good (CGC 4.0)
Condition Details
Highly visible vertical subscription crease running down the center-left of the book. Significant spine roll/misalignment where the white of the interior pages is visible on the left edge. Corner blunting and general surface wear. Color is still relatively vibrant.
Estimated Market Value
Raw (UK Variant): $15 - $25; Graded (CGC 4.0): $40 - $55
Recent Sales
Recent sales for mid-grade copies of issue #38 hover around $15-$20 for UK variants. This issue is a minor key due to the X-Men appearance and Rogue, often driving small premiums in high grade.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading. The deep subscription crease is a major structural defect that severely limits the grade reached (likely capped at 4.0-5.0 regardless of other factors). The cost of grading would exceed the market value of the book.
Notable Features
Features the X-Men. UK Price Variant (20p cover price instead of 50 cents). Newsstand-style Spider-Man head in the UPC box (Direct editions usually had a bar code or different graphic). This is a 'bronze age' Marvel key crossover issue.
Authentication Notes
The 20p price mark is consistent with 1981 UK distribution. Printing quality and 'Spider-Man head' logo are consistent with Marvel manufacturing standards of the era. No signs of counterfeit reproduction.
