Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine- (7.5)
Condition Details
Visible moderate spine stress/ticks (at least 6-8 ticks along the spine, some breaking color), color breaking horizontal crease on the right edge near the center, minor corner blunting on the bottom right, and a slight surface scuff/glare in the center (likely light reflection, but may indicate surface wear). No major tears visible.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $30 - $45; Graded (9.0+): $80 - $120. (Estimated $40 in current raw condition)
Recent Sales
Raw copies in similar mid-to-high grade condition (VF) have recently sold between $35 and $50. CGC 9.8 copies command $250+, while CGC 7.0-8.0 copies generally range from $60-$85.
Grading Recommendation
Moderate Recommendation. In its current state (approx 7.5), the cost of grading plus shipping may exceed the value increase. However, a 'Press and Clean' might elevate it to an 8.0 or 8.5. If the owner intends to sell, raw is likely more efficient; if for a permanent collection, grading is recommended for protection.
Notable Features
First appearance of the New Mutants in their own title. Direct Edition. Notable for being part of the 'Bronze Age' copper transition. Features classic Bob McLeod art.
Authentication Notes
Colors appear consistent with 1983 Newsprint and Mando stock. The Direct Edition Spider-Man head logo is correctly positioned. The 60-cent price point matches the March 1983 release schedule. No signs of restoration visible.
