Comic Description
In 'The Team of Luthor and Brainiac!', Lex Luthor and Brainiac team up for the very first time. Brainiac reveals his robotic origin, retconning his previously established biological nature into an artificial intelligence created on the planet Colu. Superman is shrunken and trapped while the two villains argue over who gets to finish him off.
Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Fine (CGC 6.0)
Condition Details
Visible spine stress with color-breaking ticks. Corner blunting on all corners, especially bottom right. Slight surface wear/scuffing on the white background areas. Minor edge wear and potential minor foxing near the top edge. Colors remain vibrant and the cover is largely flat.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $100 - $150; Graded (CGC 6.0): $200 - $275
Recent Sales
Recent sales for mid-grade CGC copies (5.0-6.5) vary between $180 and $320. Raw copies in similar condition generally sell for $120 on eBay. High-grade 9.0+ copies sell for over $1,200.
Grading Recommendation
Worth grading if it can be pressed and cleaned to reach a 7.0+ grade. As a raw 6.0, the value is stable, but high-grade Silver Age keys are seeing significant growth. A 'Press and Clean' would likely remove several non-color-breaking surface imperfections.
Notable Features
First team-up of Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Major origin retcon for Brainiac (revealed as a machine). Key Silver Age issue. Silver Age 12-cent cover price.
Authentication Notes
Authentic Silver Age DC comic. Paper stock appears consistent with 1964 production. Print registration of the DC logo and Comics Code seal is correct. Wear patterns are consistent with age and typical paper degradation of the era.
