Estimated Market Value
Raw: $40-$60; Graded 9.8: $350-$500
Recent Sales
Recent raw sales for issue #1 in similar condition range between $35 and $65. High-grade slabbed copies (9.8) have reached upwards of $450 in recent months due to high demand for early Pokémon media.
Grading Recommendation
Worth grading only if the owner believes it can achieve a 9.6 or higher after professional pressing. The creases on the bottom right might limit the grade to 8.0-8.5. Pressing could improve the appearance, but color-breaking creases are permanent.
Notable Features
First issue of the first Pokémon comic series published in the United States. Features the Pikachu 'Official Nintendo Licensed Product' gold seal. UPC in lower left signifies a Direct Edition. Notable for being part of the 'Pokémania' boom of the late 90s.
Authentication Notes
Authentic copy. Features correct VIZ Comics logo and typeface for the period. Paper stock is the standard non-glossy newsprint interior typically found in late 90s VIZ floppy manga releases. The cover has the correct semi-gloss finish.
