Estimated Market Value
Raw: $20 - $35; Graded (9.8): $120 - $160
Recent Sales
Raw copies in high grade typically sell between $15 and $30. Recent CGC 9.8 sales have averaged around $140, while 9.6 copies fetch approximately $60.
Grading Recommendation
Worth grading only if a 9.8 is guaranteed. While this copy is high-grade, black covers are notoriously difficult to grade due to showing any minor scuffing or fingerprints. A professional clean and press is recommended to remove any surface oils before submission.
Notable Features
Key issue featuring the first appearance and origin of The Maxx. This is the direct edition (no barcode). Significant as one of the most unique and successful titles from the early Image Comics era, later adapted into an MTV animated series.
Authentication Notes
Authentic first printing; paper stock shows the appropriate semi-gloss texture of early 1990s Image books. The red 'Image' logo and '$1.95' price point are consistent with original March 1993 distribution.
