Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine (CGC 8.0)
Condition Details
Reflective glare on the bag obscures some details, but visible flaws include moderate spine stress marks, color breaking near the upper spine, and slight corner blunting on the bottom right. The book appears to have been stored in a plastic poly-bag which may show some surface scratching not on the comic itself.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $3.00 - $8.00; Graded (9.8): $40.00 - $60.00
Recent Sales
Recent raw copies have sold for approximately $5.00. High-grade slabbed copies (9.8) typically range between $50 and $70 depending on the auction site and timing.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for professional grading. The cost of CGC/CBCS grading (approx. $25-$40 plus shipping) exceeds the current market value of a mid-to-high grade raw copy. It is best enjoyed as a reader copy or part of a full run of the miniseries.
Notable Features
First appearance of The Weird; art by legendary horror artist Bernie Wrightson; scripted by Jim Starlin (creator of Thanos); 'DC Comics aren't just for kids!' logo on the front cover indicative of the late 80s marketing shift toward mature readers.
Authentication Notes
Authentic 1980s DC Comic. Proper flat finish matte paper typical of the Copper Age; correct DC 'Bullet' logo; artist signature 'Wrightson' visible in the lower right corner of the cover art.
