Comic Description
In 'The Ambush Bug!,' Superman faces off against the cult leader Kobra, only to have the eccentric and fourth-wall-breaking Ambush Bug interfere. This issue continues the early appearances of the cult-favorite character Ambush Bug.
Condition & Value
Condition Grade
Very Fine- (CGC 7.5)
Condition Details
Visible spine stress marks (some color-breaking), minor corner blunting on the bottom right, slight edge wear along the top, and minor yellowing of the white cover stock due to age.
Estimated Market Value
Raw: $20.00 - $35.00; Graded (CGC 7.5): $50.00 - $70.00; Graded (CGC 9.8): $250.00+
Recent Sales
Raw copies in similar mid-to-high grade condition typically sell between $25 and $40 on eBay. NM copies have seen a price increase due to the 'Bronze Age' copper-era key interest.
Grading Recommendation
Not recommended for grading unless it were in NM/MT (9.8) condition. The cost of CGC submission and shipping would likely equal or exceed the potential value gain at a 7.5 grade. A press and clean might bump it to an 8.0, but still lacks significant ROI.
Notable Features
Early appearance of Ambush Bug (Irwin Schwab); Direct Edition (indicated by the strike-through over the UPC barcode area containing the DC logo). First appearance of the character occurred in issue #52.
Authentication Notes
Authentic copy. Shows standard 1980s newsprint interior with a semi-glossy cover stock. Staple placement is correct for DC's 1983 production line. Direct Edition markings and price positioning match known originals.
